IT HAD NOT. Therefore, I believe it is a DELIBERATE attempt to scam the general public.
Later in the day, by chance, one of the associates who was present during the above, and whilst still in company uniform, happened to enter into line behind me at another retail location... I turned to smile and say hello, only to be told "I saw some items over on that shelf that weren't priced right, maybe you should go take a picture."
I was told it was my fault, it was other peoples fault, and they didn't care. It was suggested that I was ignorant of merchandising procedures regardless I've had many years retail experience. It was suggested that I had picked it up and moved it.
CAVEAT EMPTOR!
I very highly recommend: should you choose to continue patronizing this establishment, you lay bare your pocketbook AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Double, triple, even quadruple check prices on the shelf against what you are being charged!!!
Apparently, the smaller item was priced correctly. The larger was priced inaccurately I was told. I was then told they were different items entirely not just in size - ludicrous if you could see the pictures and read the labels (which I had). I pointed this out, at which point the lady returned to her screen to find some other reason to tell me how there could possibly be such a price disparity over 250% for nothing more than a slighter larger product?? The items were not dissimilar in any way but size. The larger item appeared no more than 5 -15% larger than the smaller. She finally gave up looking for excuses and left with nothing but, "It is what it is and that's what it costs because I say so," to paraphrase.
I brought an item to the counter and was shocked to hear I was being charged $20 more than expected. Why? Inaccurate shelf labeling. Where multiple items of the same type and brand were stocked together, and priced on the shelves, I was led to believe I would pay $24.99 for a particular product. I was told it was instead it would be $45 and that item was just misplaced by a customer. Well that was nothing but a lie, considering multiples of the product I selected were in all in a single row, immediately above the product almost exactly the same, just a little bit smaller for $10 less (or so it appeared).
I returned some time later with a camera to take pictures, and upon entering, asked if the problem had been fixed.
It is my belief they first attempted to scam me through inaccurate shelf labeling.
Good service, little pricey
I had been a loyal customer for some time now. However, I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN! How many times in the past have they got one over on me, and I had not realized?! I would not even have realized this visit were it not that I had bought so few items and were the hidden markup not so vast.
Two like-items, multiples of each, merchandised separately, one above the other, and not mixed together in any way - were both clearly labeled as $16.99 for the smaller item and 24.99 for the slightly larger item. NO WHERE was there a shelf label for the $45 I found demanded of me. NONE of the items were individually priced.
